About Tom Regan

I have been an enthusiastic woodwind player for over 20 years and specialise in alto and tenor saxophones but am also highly proficient in baritone and soprano as well as playing clarinet and flute to a high standard.

I focused initially on playing, attending the renowned Leeds College of Music studying on the BA Jazz(hons) course. I have extensive experience of working in professional bands from a wide range of genres including classical, jazz, funk, soul, motown, ska, hip-hop and everything in between.

I have also taught a wide range of students from primary and secondary school age through to retired clients. I can work with beginners or with highly advanced players and am especially proud of my 100% student pass rate for the ABRSM and Trinity Grades. I also have the pleasure of seeing numerous students attending high level conservatoires throughout the UK.

Several years ago I realised that I could develop my musical interests further and set to learning more about the maintenance and repair of these beautiful instruments. I quickly realised this was a passion of mine and developed my skills at the Trevor Head Instrument Repair School and then through working at the well-renowned Woodwind Exchange in Bradford. I am now proficient in a wide range of advanced repair techniques and have worked on an extensive range of instrument types, brands and materials.

I have a specific passion for vintage saxophones. I have had a Conn 10m as my main instrument for many years and I love the way it plays and has allowed me to develop my own sound and playing style. With this in mind I really understand the value of someone owning and playing the right instrument for them, and I love working closely with someone to help them find that perfect horn. It’s been a good day at the office when someone has found an instrument that is going to inspire them for years to come, or if a repair service has given an old instrument a new lease of life.

I continue to play, teach and repair and I absolutely love it all.
