C.G. Conn Ltd made some of the finest saxophones in the world prior to the USA joining WW2 in 1941. The most famous of these were the M series, 6m alto, 10m tenor, and 12m baritone. The New wonder series, version 1 and 2, were their predecessors and, although they are not as well known or sought after they offer a great value entrance into the world of vintage American saxophones.
In terms of ergonomics they feel very different to modern horns. They feel small under the fingers and do take a bit of getting used to. However; they sound amazing. They are, in my opinion, some of the finest sound horns ever made. If you can get around the key-work you will be richly rewarded.
This one has the serial number 143XXX and was made in 1924. It has been stripped of its lacquer and looks amazing in raw brass. It is a horn that used to belong to Dave O’Higgins and has had a Steve Crow ‘connversion’ as well as a full fresh overhaul by him a couple of weeks ago. This is surely one of the tightest and best playing conn altos on the market. It will not disappoint.
As with all of our instruments, trials are both recommended and encouraged. Please book an appointment or get in touch if you would like any more information.
