Selmer Mark VI Tenor Saxophone, ’58, 75XXX
£9,750.00
Stunning early Mark VI tenor.
Condition: Wonderful condition
Age: 1958
Selmer Mk VI saxophones are probably the most revered of all the vintage horns. Played worldwide by discerning professionals as well as being sought after by collectors, they are wonderful instruments. Production started in 1954 and ran until 1975 and most modern saxophones since then have been, in one way or another, an attempt at a Mk VI copy. They really should be on the trial list for any serious player.
This Mark VI tenor has the serial number 75XXX which makes its year of production 1958. It is finished in raw brass. There was very little of its original lacquer left on it when the last owner had it overhauled so they opted to have it chemically stripped and left raw for a patina to develop. It looks stunning! The engraving is still wonderfully sharp and there is no evidence of it ever having been buffed/re-lacquered. It feels effortless under the fingers and blows just as good. Surely not one that will hang around for long.
As with all of our instruments, trials are both recommended and encouraged. Please book an appointment or get in touch if you would like any more information
