Stunning 86XXX original lacquer Mark VI tenor.

Condition: Great condition
Age: 1960
Selmer Mk VI saxophones are probably the most revered of all the vintage horns. Played worldwide by discerning professionals as well as being sought after by collectors, they are wonderful instruments. Production started in 1954 and ran until 1975 and most modern saxophones since then have been, in one way or another, an attempt at a Mk VI copy. They really should be on the trial list for any serious player.
This Mark VI tenor has the serial number 86XXX which makes its year of production 1960. It is finished in its original lacquer and is in beautiful condition. These 86XXX horns are well known to be some of the best Mark VI’s you’ll ever find. People often refer to this serial range as the ‘Brecker’ range due to Michael Brecker having a similar era horn. It is truly an incredible sounding horn. Really a cut above most Mark VI’s you come across.

Unfortunately the neck has suffered some damage at some point. There is evidence of a previous pull down and some other repair work. I have taken plenty of photos of the neck so you can see for yourself. It does not affect the way the horn blows or tunes at all in my opinion. The horn is playing great on a set of older pads but you should factor in a re-pad in the next year or two if you’re planning on giving it lots of playtime. With these two things in mind, I have priced the horn accordingly. You often see these go well north of £10k so heres a chance to own one of these without the silly price tag.

As with all of our instruments, trials are both recommended and encouraged. Please book an appointment or get in touch if you would like any more information
